Be Still

If living in NYC has taught me ONE thing it’s how to live a fast paced life. We live in a society that is constantly doing one thing after another. We walk, talk and even eat around a certain time frame. It seems like there is little to no spare time in our day to day.

 We are SO busy.
Living in such a fast paced society has made us slowly lose one very essential skill; our ability to BE STILL.

Yes, BEING STILL is a skill, believe it or not.

Most people have adapted so well to the fast pace world that it’s very difficult for them to slow down from time to time.

What does being still consist of?

Good question!

The Hebrew definition of being still is to stop striving and let go. Other definitions include to be without sound or movement.

Being still requires us to STOP, even just for a moment and let go of the busyness that constantly surrounds us.

I am a HUGE believer in appreciating the small things. I often stop on my walks home just to look at the moon (because I’m a little bit obsessed). When I was in high school my friends would make fun of me because I would randomly tune out and as they’d put it “smile weirdly at the sky”. The truth is that I’d often tune everything out and appreciate the beauty around me. In order for me to appreciate that, I had to learn to be still and take it all in.
That is a problem for most of us.

When you are so use to always doing something, it’s hard for you to purposely do nothing, even if it’s just for a few minutes.

Sometimes we talk too much, lets learn to be quiet and listen. Sometimes we walk too fast, let’s learn to slow down and appreciate the beauty around us.

I encourage you to take some time throughout this week to Be Still, whatever that looks like to you. Go for a walk and pay attention to the details around you (seriously the world is so beautiful y’all and we often overlook the awesomeness around us), Lie on your bed and stare at your ceiling, savor every bite in your next meal, don’t talk just LISTEN to the world and people around you.

Be still for a moment.

    1. Yes, God had been reminding me of this so much that I had to put it as my lock screen to remember to stop and be still every so often. Thank you for sharing, I always LOVE hearing from you❤️

  2. Hi Emily!
One of favorite verses in the bible is psalms 46:10. Something that lord has been speaking me for a couple of weeks now to reminding me to be still. I haven’t made to time for me I just been running around like a chicken without a head. Stressing over everything not enjoying the present moment. Your blog is confirmation from God.

    1. I’m so glad that it’s been that for you. It is so important to take some time to ourselves and just be still before God. Our body and spirit needs that from time to time❤️
